Graphic History – From the Archive to the Classroom

March 31, 2015 @ 4:00 am - 5:00 pm

Please join us on Tuesday, March 31st, at 4:00 in Keene-Flint, 005, for “Graphic History – From the Archive to the Classroom.”  Since the publication of Maus the graphic narrative has slowly found widespread recognition as a valid, even vitally important medium for the expression of historical narrative – especially narratives of culturally and politically marginalized peoples.  This discussion will address the theoretical and pedagogical challenges and opportunities of the graphic history.  Discussion participants will include Leela Corman, an illustrator and cartoonist whose most recent work Unterzakhn focused on the Lower East Side at the turn of the century, Nina Caputo (History, UF), Jennifer Rea (Classics, UF), and Ronald Schechter (History, William and Mary).  This event is sponsored the the Alexander Grass Chair in Jewish History.
