“Muslims, Jews, & the Media in France,” a roundtable dedicated to recent events

January 27, 2015 @ 5:15 pm - 7:00 pm

In light of the recent events in France, the Center for European Studies, the Center for Jewish Studies, and the Center for Global Islamic Studies have come together to collaborate on an informative public discussion that seeks to understand these events and to present a variety of perspectives.  This event is intended to provide an in-depth look at the many issues surrounding not only the recent attacks, but also French society in the contemporary period.  Please join us on Tuesday, January 27th at 5:15 pm in Smathers Library East, Room 100 for “Muslims, Jews, & the Media in France,” a roundtable discussing the recent events in France. The roundtable will feature presentations by Gayle Zachmann, Associate Professor of French, Director of the UF Paris Research Center, 2003-2011, Alioune Sow, Associate Professor of French and African Studies and who is currently serving as the Director of the France Florida Research Institute, and Abdoulaye Kane, Associate Professor of Anthropology, whose work focuses on the cultural anthropology of social networks and transnational social spaces. Esther Romeyn will serve as moderator during the Q & A session. The event is free and open to the public and we welcome all members of the community. Light refreshments will be served.
