FORTEPAN: AN Open-Source Photography Archive of Everyday Life in 20th Century Hungary

March 27, 2015 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Please join us for a discussion with András Török, founding Director of Summa Artium, a non-profit company and arts & business center. Mr. Török will be discussing his recent work with FORTEPAN, an open-source, online digital archive of photographs taken by amateur photographers. FORTEPAN seeks to draw attention to the work of unknown and amateur photographers and also to present a side of 20th century Hungarian life that is typically absent from official exhibits and publications.  Coffee & refreshments will be served.  The event is free and open to the public.

About András Török: He has held a variety of important positions with regard to Hungarian culture, such as the Founding Director of the Hungarian House of Photography in Budapest, the President of the National Cultural Fund of Hungary, and the Deputy State Secretary for Culture. Additionally, he has published and translated extensively on a wide variety of topics from Oscar Wilde and Mark Twain, to cultural guides for Hungary and Budapest. During the Communist period he served as an editor and literary advisor for a number of underground (samizdat/dissident) publications. He was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic.
