The Center for European Studies presents: All That Jazz: Europe, the Cold War, and Race

Dr. Tyler Stovall
University of California
Dean, Division of Humanities & Distinguished Professor of History

In Interwar Paris, music enabled a small number of black American performers to discover the world beyond the borders of the United States. In this talk, Dr. Stovall will consider the politics of musical exile for African Americans and the ways in which the popularity of jazz overseas gave them unprecedented new opportunities and at the same time continued to pose dilemmas of race, equality, and freedom.

The Center for European Studies presents this program in partnership with the UF African American Studies Program, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Political Science, and the UF International Center.
