Sylvie Blum-Reid is professor of French and film. New courses that she created include: Music in French Cinema.  Masculinity in French cinema, Francophone Women and Film, Francophone postcolonial cinema, the Films of Jacques Tati, Jean Renoir, World War II and French cinema, European Cinemas, European Identities. In the subject area of French & Francophone literature and European cultural studies: she teaches Modern theatre, Introduction to Literature II, French music and literature, Women writing in French, Women and Travel in Literature as well as language courses.

Blum-Reid is the author of East-West Encounters. Franco-Asian Cinema and Literature (London: Wallflower press/Columbia Univ<persity 2003). Her articles appear in such film, literary and cultural journals as Quarterly Review of Film and VideoPortal: Journal of Multidisciplinary International StudiesInter-Asia Cultural StudiesIris, and Sites, The Journal of 20th Century Contemporary French StudiesThe Journal of Durassian StudiesSimone de Beauvoir StudiesLe Maghreb LittéraireThe Contemporary Journal of French and Francophone Studies andEurope Plurilingue. Her research and teaching interests include literature, travel narratives, photography, 1930s cinema and culture in France, expatriate female artists in the interwar period, culinary practices, and creative writing.
