Sylvie Blum-Reid is professor of French and film. New courses that she created include: Music in French Cinema.  Masculinity in French cinema, Francophone Women and Film, Francophone postcolonial cinema, the Films of Jacques Tati, Jean Renoir, World War II and French cinema, European Cinemas, European Identities. In the subject area of French & Francophone literature and European cultural studies: she teaches Modern theatre, Introduction to Literature II, French music and literature, Women writing in French, Women and Travel in Literature as well as language courses.

Blum-Reid is the author of East-West Encounters. Her research and teaching interests include literature, travel narratives, photography, 1930s cinema and culture in France, expatriate female artists in the interwar period, culinary practices, and creative writing.
