The Center for European Studies provides a wide range of community events that highlight European culture, history, and current events. Our schedule of events includes film screenings, ILR talks at Oak Hammock, booths at local festivals, and our flagship event, Viva Europe, an annual celebration of European culture.

Viva Europe

Join the UF Center for European Studies for a celebration of European peoples and culture! Viva Europe brings together members of the community to enjoy European food, music, dancing, and arts & crafts that reflect the diverse European cultural landscape.

Film Screenings

The Center for European Studies hosts an annual film festival highlighting both classic and contemporary European cinema. Previous festivals have included Cold War Nostalgia on Film, European Horror, and Migration in Europe. Film screenings are held on campus and around Gainesville at local hangouts including First Magnitude, the Hippodrome, and the Harn Museum.

ILR @ Oak Hammock

The Center for European Studies is an active contributor to the Oak Hammock retirement community Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) program. Each fall the Center offers a wide range of continuing education classes on contemporary issues in Europe taught by CES faculty for the residents at Oak Hammock.

Museum Nights at the Harn Museum of Art

Each year the Center for European Studies co-sponsors Europe Night, part of the Museum Nights series hosted by the Harn Museum of Art. Museum Nights is an after-hours event for the whole community at the museum that connects visitors with art in fun and interesting ways. Europe Night celebrates the music, dance, and art of Europe through performances, kid’s activities, and tours of the museum’s collections.
