Agata Kowalewska is an Assistant Instructional Professor and Polish language instructor at the University of Florida’s Center for European Studies. She was born in Warsaw, Poland and her education started in the country of her origin. She holds M.S. in Geology from the University of Warsaw, Poland (1991), M.S. in Geosciences from the University of Arizona, USA (1996), and Ph.D. in Community Nutrition from Virginia Tech, USA (2010). She is also a registered dietician nutritionist.

Agata has been teaching academic courses and developing educational material for diverse populations since 2005. Her research experiences started much earlier when she was still in Poland working on postglacial and alluvial sediments in the Mazury area in 1990. At the University of Florida, her career started in the summer of 2013. Agata, among other activities, developed a UF summer aboard program in Poland (LET) and contributed to signing a collaborative agreement between UF and Warsaw University of Life Sciences. She worked in two USAID funded projects within Feed the Future: Integrating Gender and Nutrition within Agricultural Extension Services (INGENAES). One of the activities was conducted in Nepal and the other in Tajikistan. Before her work in Central Asia, Agata conducted extension and service activities in Haiti in collaboration with faculty from the Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy at UF.

Agata Kowalewska teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses. In addition to Polish Language courses, she teaches courses about nutrition, food and food customs, and food safety in the US and Europe. Selected courses that focused on the EU include laws and practices of sustainable agriculture and food practices.
