CES Career Speaker Series: Johanna Mellis

Join the Center for European Studies for a talk with Dr. Johanna Mellis, Assistant Professor of World History at Ursinus College. In addition Dr. Mellis is the co-host of the End of Sport podcast where she interviews athletes, academics, and journalists about harmful impacts of sport. She will talk about navigating academic and public intellectual work drawing from her professional experience.

 

Dr. Johanna Mellis graduated from UF in 2018 and is an Assistant Professor of World History at Ursinus College (Er-sigh-nus), outside of Philadelphia. She teaches courses in world/global history, European history, oral history and memory studies, sport history, and more. Her research focuses on sport during the Cold War as a site of cooperation, focusing on the cooperative interactions between Hungarian athletes, Hungarian socialist sport leaders, and the International Olympic Committee. She has published articles in the Journal of Sport History and the Contemporary European History journal. She moreover is a co-host of the End of Sport podcast where she and her sociologist co-hosts interview athletes, fellow academics, and journalists about all the ways that sport is harmful.
