Dialogues on the Experiences of War

The Dialogues on the Experience of War, the Center’s newest grant, has been made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Dialogues of the Experience of War.

This grant supports the study and discussion of important humanities sources about war, in the belief that these sources can help U.S. military veterans and others to think more deeply about the issues raised by war and military service. CES has constructed its program to make the experiences of war and returning home more visible to the general public as a means of facilitating the voice of veterans.

The program includes a graduate seminar to begin in the Fall 2016 semester, “Humanities & War,” dedicated to exploring war through humanities sources. This course will be taught by Dr. Alice Freifeld, Center for European Studies and History, and Dr. Paul Ortiz, History and the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program.

Beginning in the Spring 2017, we will host discussion groups with local veterans around a series of themes related to the experience of war and based on various humanities sources – literature, film, photography. All necessary materials will be provided to the participants free of charge.
