CES actively engages with K-12 teachers and students to provide classroom resources and training in European Studies. The Center organizes classroom visits, training workshops and seminars for teachers, and the annual Language Teacher Summer Institute.
Programs
Educators in Residence
The Educators-in-Residence (EnR) program provides K-12 teachers the opportunity to expand their knowledge of contemporary European Studies topics, transfer that knowledge to the precollegiate curriculum, and network and collaborate with other educators across the country. During the program, teachers will study contemporary Europe from a variety of disciplines and receive assistance in developing lesson plans and course modules, including access to UF online resources.
Language Teacher Summer Institute (LTSI)
The Center offers a variety of opportunities to receive in-service credit while learning about the latest technologies available for language teachers.
Euro Book Club
The Center for European Studies Educators’ Euro Book Club is a professional development and discussion program for middle and high school educators. Led by an expert in the book topic, the Book Club will meet monthly to discuss that month’s book. Educators have the opportunity to create lesson plans related to a book for compensation.
Classroom Programs
The Center for European Studies can provide pre-planned classroom presentations, create unique projects customized for teacher’s classes, or send materials for teacher’s to plan their own lessons as part of our Travelling Suitcase program.
School-Wide Programs
CES offers funding and resources for schools to participate in K-12 events such as Euro Challenge for high school students and hosts Europe Day celebrations for elementary schools.
Educator Resources
CES offers workshops on incorporating contemporary European topics into the classroom and provides lesson plans for K-12 curriculum and co-sponsors the annual Globally Connected Conference.
34th Street Art Wall Competition
The 34th Street Art Wall program is an annual mural competition open to Alachua County high school students. Each spring semester, high school students submit pieces based on a theme to compete for prizes. Selected finalists paint their mural on the 34th Street Graffiti Wall.
Euroductions
Euroductions are one of the Center for European Studies’ initiatives to help provide quality and engaging online resources to K-12 educators. These instructional videos address various European social, cultural, and historical topics that are specifically tailored for K-12 classroom use.
K-12 Module / Lesson Plan Development Award
The CES provides $500 competitive awards for K-12 educators to develop high-quality, European related lesson plans and modules to be shared and published on the CES website.
