CZECH STUDIES

The Czech Studies Program at the University of Florida was founded in 2005 and offers students an innovative curriculum taught in both Czech and English. We offer Czech language instruction at the beginning through advanced levels, and heritage speakers (those who learned some Czech or Slovak at home) are also welcome. UF students can also take a variety of courses taught in English on Czech(oslovak) culture and the broader region of East-Central Europe, focusing on twentieth-century and contemporary culture & society. For students wanting to experience Czech culture first-hand, we offer an overseas study program each summer in Prague. Czech-related coursework can fulfill degree requirements for several academic tracks at UF: students can obtain a certificate or minor in East-Central European Studies, a certificate or minor in European Union Studies, or a major in International Studies with a focus on Europe (which requires intermediate-level foreign language proficiency). Cultural expertise and language proficiency can also enrich research projects in a broad variety of disciplines.
