Welcome to the website of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence at the University of Florida. The University of Florida is the first American institution to receive funding from the European Union to establish a Jean Monnet Center of Excellence on campus.
The Center, named after one of the most influential supporters of European integration throughout most of the 20th Century, is entirely dedicated to EU topics and supports an annual visiting scholar program, additional specific classes, and a yearly workshop. It is housed within the Center for European Studies.
People
The Jean Monnet Center of Excellence (JMCE) at the Center for European Studies is supported by faculty, affiliate faculty who support the JMCE courses and workshops, and visiting scholars who lead the specialized JMCE courses and participate at the workshops.

Courses
The CES Jean Monnet Center of Excellence offers a wide range of courses on European Union led by visiting scholars and experts in the field. Previous course topics include sustainability in the EU, transatlantic security relations, media and citizenship, capitalism in Europe, and Islam in Europe. JMCE courses are open to undergraduate and graduate students from any department.

Workshops
The CES Jean Monnet Center of Excellence hosts an annual workshop in conjunction with the JMCE course. The workshops bring together experts on that year’s theme to discuss current research and future trends. Participants have the opportunity to present working papers or current research for discussion and feedback from colleagues. Students from the JMCE course also participate in the workshop.

Faculty JMCE Course Enhancement Award
The CES Jean Monnet Center of Excellence offers funding to faculty to enhance an existing course with content on the European Union. Priority is given to courses from non-traditional fields or disciplines. Awards are given in the amount of $3,000. Click here to view the award.

About Erasmus+ Jean Monnet
Jean Monnet Activities are designed to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies worldwide. The activities also foster the dialogue between the academic world and policy-makers, in particular with the aim of enhancing governance of EU policies.
The Center for European Studies received the 2018 Jean Monnet Chair and Jean Monnet Center of Excellence for 2018-2021.
